IPL franchise Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka said that the new captain of the team has been decided. This will be announced in the next few days before the IPL 2025 season. LSG was led by KL Rahul in the IPL 2022-24 cycle. However, he was out of IPL 2023 due to injury, after which Krunal Pandya took over the captaincy of the team. But the franchise decided not to retain the duo ahead of the mega auction held in Jeddah last month.
Rahul is now in Delhi Capitals and Krunal is in Royal Challengers Bangalore, so the Lucknow franchise has former Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant, current T20 captain of Australia and South Africa Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram as well as West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran. There are leadership options in the form of , who had previously led the national team.
“People are easily surprised,” Goenka said in a video on former India opener Aakash Chopra’s YouTube channel on Monday. I don’t think you are easily surprised. it’s fixed. But we will announce it in the next few days. There are four leaders in our team – Rishabh, Pooran, Markram and Mitchell Marsh.” He further said, “They are all people who can move forward with a winning mentality. Rishabh has that hunger and passion that he wants to win, and wants to do something and show. So the team is good and we are happy.”
Lucknow had retained Puran for Rs 21 crore, along with Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi (11 crore each) as well as the uncapped pair of Ayush Badoni and Mohsin Khan for Rs 4 crore. They bought Pant for Rs 27 crore in the mega auction.
