The Chief Minister is currently on a foreign tour, hence the decision regarding accepting the resignation will be taken upon his return.
After its acceptance, the Chief Minister can keep the responsibility of the Forest Department with himself until the cabinet is expanded.
Rawat had resigned from the membership of the Assembly after leaving Congress and joining BJP. He was sworn in as minister on July 8, 2024. BJP made him its candidate in the by-election, but he lost to Mukesh Malhotra of Congress.

This term of Rawat will be completed in January 2025, but a decision will be taken before that. It is more likely that the Chief Minister will keep the responsibility of the Forest Department with himself instead of handing it over to some other minister. After that the cabinet can be expanded and this responsibility can be given to someone else.
