If approval is given by March-April next year, metro will run between Indore and Ujjain before Simhastha.

Indore/Ujjain

If all goes well and approval is given by March-April next year, then metro will start running between Indore and Ujjain before Simhastha (2028). At present the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared. If Metro officials are to be believed, the report will be ready by December.

Delhi Metro is preparing DPR for the proposed metro between Indore-Ujjain. Feasibility study has already been done. The cost and number of stations will be decided in the DPR itself. The road distance between Indore-Ujjain is about 55 Km. Metro can pass through this area only.

Delhi Metro itself had done the feasibility study. The feasibility study for running the metro between Indore-Ujjain in the year 2022-23 was done by Delhi Metro itself, which was submitted to the government. Delhi Metro had done this study. Now the same DPR is also being prepared.

In the DPR, it will be told what is the distance between Indore-Ujjain, how many stations will be built, what will be the probable cost etc. Details will be included in the project report. According to an estimate, the cost could be one to one and a half thousand crore rupees.

Rapid rail, hence it will take less time. Only 2 to 3 metro stations will be built in this project. Apart from Indore-Ujjain, one more station can be built in between. Therefore there will be rapid rail. The objective of Rapid Rail is to increase ‘Inter City Connectivity’.

If there are less stations then the cost will also be less. A total of 8 metro stations are being built between Subhash Nagar and AIIMS of Priority Corridor in Bhopal. The cost of one station is more than Rs 50 crore. On the other hand, there will be less metro stations between Indore and Ujjain. This will save money and also reduce costs.

The project will be completed in 3 years. According to an officer associated with Metro, the focus is on completing the entire process by March-April next year, because after this, 3 years will be available. Simhastha is in April-May 2028. If the work starts on time, there will be no obstacles in running the metro.

DMRC government has done the survey and has made preparations to run metro between Indore-Ujjain before Simhastha. Due to this, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has inspected the route from Lavkush intersection of Indore to Ujjain Mahakal. The team had identified space for a station, depot and other facilities. There is a plan to build an elevated track between the two cities.

Traffic will be reduced to one third. About 75 percent of the traffic in Indore and Ujjain travels by road only. Thousands of people travel up and down in Indore-Ujjain. Due to this, traffic pressure remains on the road. Many accidents have also happened. In such a situation, Metro can be a big option for better connectivity between Indore and Ujjain. After the metro runs between the two cities, the road traffic will be reduced to one-third.

Safety audit of metro train completed

Safety audit of metro train has been completed. Its report will come in 7 days. From 9 to 17 November 2024, the team conducted testing on the main line track between Gandhi Nagar station and Super Corridor-03 station. Actually, before the commercial run of the metro train, the Metro Rail Corporation will have to take NOC from RDSO and CMRC, because in view of the safety of the passengers, the team of Railway Ministry will come for inspection. Recently Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) inspected the metro rolling stock (train). The train was tested. All technical checks including speed, brakes, emergency brake, software, wiring were done. After the final report, the CMRC team will inspect all the services including civil work, trains and issue NOC. Oscillation and emergency braking distance tests were conducted for metro rolling stock (trains) during the audit. Under this, many important parameters like ride quality, stability, emergency braking distance and evaluation of the entire rolling stock were recorded. This data is extremely important for obtaining safety certification and technical clearance for commercial operations of Indore Metro.
