Indore
After Bhopal, BRTS will be removed from Indore. CM Dr. Mohan Yadav has made a big announcement regarding this in Indore on Thursday (21 November). Ever since the formation of BRTS, there were two factions continuously divided over it. The officials were adamant to keep it running continuously, while the public representatives and social workers were against it.
CM said this
While discussing with the media at Indore Airport, CM said that we have removed BRTS in Bhopal, its removal has provided massive convenience to the people in traffic there. Here too, complaints were being received continuously from the point of view of Indore. Public representatives had also spoken about this in the last two development related meetings. Now the government’s stand which is being presented before the court is that whatever method is required, we will remove it by imposing it here. Will also present his side in the court. If there is a traffic problem at the intersections, we will find a solution by building a bridge there. Even when the bridge is built, the corridor will have to be removed. Overall, it is the responsibility of all of us to ensure smooth traffic and no inconvenience to people. This decision has been taken considering everyone’s problems.
The corridor was built for Rs 250 crores
This 11.50 km long corridor was built from Rajiv Gandhi Chowk to Niranjanpur in Indore 12 years ago at a cost of Rs 250 crore. Every day 80 thousand to one lakh passengers travel in it and Ibus runs in it. After Ahmedabad, Indore’s project is considered the most successful. But in recent times, survey is being conducted to construct first elevated bridge in the corridor on AB Road and now flyover bridge at various intersections.
Buses operate on BRTS
Passenger buses are operated on BRTS every day. More than 50 thousand passengers travel in these buses every day. But due to BRTS, other vehicles get less space and there is jam situation at many places on this entire route.
Two petitions are ongoing
Ever since the construction of this corridor, the problem of narrowing of mixed lane (where other normal vehicles ply) and jam has been arising on AB Road. Social worker Kishore Kodwani also filed petitions regarding this in the years 2013 and 2015. In a recent petition in September 2024, the Indore High Court ordered the formation of a five-member expert committee regarding the feasibility and use of the corridor and sought a report on it. The matter was to be heard on 22nd November but before that the Indore High Court transferred the case to Jabalpur bench.
BRTS is 11.5 km long
About 11.5 km long BRTS is built from Rajiv Gandhi Statue to Niranjanpur in Indore. In which only buses are operated. Along with this, ambulances are allowed to pass here.
Side will change after CM says
Till now the government and administration have presented their case in favor of BRTS in the High Court. But now this side will change when the hearing is held in Jabalpur High Court because now the CM himself has said to put forward the matter of removing it in the court.
