MP left Punjab and Haryana behind in stubble burning, figures revealed from satellite data

The main reasons for increasing pollution in Madhya Pradesh are road dust, vehicles, industries and incidents of stubble burning. From September 15 to November 14, 2024, 8,917 stubble burning incidents were recorded in the state, which is more than Punjab and Haryana combined. Agriculture and administration departments are active in pollution control.

Despite having the highest forest cover in the country, the level of pollution in the state is increasing. The increasing amount of pollution in the air is due to road dust, vehicles and industries as well as stubble burning. The situation has become such that Madhya Pradesh has left even Punjab and Haryana behind in stubble burning.

From September 15 to November 14, 2024, the highest number of incidents of stubble burning in the country, 8,917, were recorded in the state. This has come to light from the satellite data of stubble burning incidents released by the Agricultural Engineering Department, Bhopal.

in 2024 to burn stubble 8,917 incidents

Departmental officials said that among the incidents of stubble burning that were reported in the state between September 15 and November 14, 2024, maximum 489 were recorded in Sheopur. While 275 incidents took place in Jabalpur, about 150 incidents each were recorded in districts like Gwalior, Narmadapuram, Satna, Datia. This data is more than the leading states in agriculture like Punjab and Haryana.

Negligible in traditional farming districts

The incidents of stubble burning are negligible in those districts where traditional agriculture is practiced. Balaghat district is leading in this. Six incidents have come to light here from September 15 to November 16. Despite harvesting with harvesters, farmers in the district harvest up to one feet of paddy and keep some portion left. It is used as animal fodder throughout the year.

Awareness campaign regarding stubble

Environment Department Secretary Navneet Mohan Kothari says that stubble is also one of the reasons for pollution. The work of making farmers aware so that they should not burn it is done by the Agriculture Department as well as the district administration. Road soil is a major cause of pollution in urban areas. Dust causes up to 60 percent pollution.

Pollution also due to vehicles and industries

At the same time, pollution levels are also increasing due to vehicles and industries. To control this, related departments are also working along with the Pollution Control Board. Now again instructions are being given to all departments including agriculture to strictly follow the provisions for pollution control.
