Maharashtra elections: Number of voters in Mumbai crosses one crore

The number of voters in Mumbai has crossed the one crore mark, whereas during the Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year, the number was 98.95 lakh. A municipal official gave this information.

According to Election Commission data, there were 98,95,602 voters in Mumbai at the time of Lok Sabha elections, of which 25,16,667 were in Mumbai and 74,64,974 were in suburban districts. Assembly elections in Maharashtra will be held on November 20 and counting of votes will take place on November 23.

Addressing a press conference, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation chief Bhushan Gagrani said, “There are 1,02,29,708 voters in Mumbai for the Assembly elections, out of which 25,43,610 voters are in Mumbai and 76,86,098 in suburban districts. These include 54,67,361 men, 47,61,265 women and 1,082 transgender voters.

Additionally, names of 43,020 voters were deleted after the general elections, of which 26,429 were from the city and 16,591 were from the suburbs. There are 36 assembly constituencies in Mumbai. There are a total of 410 candidates, out of which 105 are in Mumbai and 315 are in suburban districts. A total of 10,117 polling stations have been set up, of which 2,538 are in Mumbai and 7,579 in suburban districts. Asked about security, Gagrani said the police department has come up with a plan to deploy 25,696 personnel for the assembly elections in Mumbai.
