Head came in support of Rohit, warned against underestimating India

Perth
Apart from the heated exchange between Team India and Australia over the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australian veteran batsman Travis Head has supported Rohit Sharma’s decision to stay out of the Perth Test due to personal reasons.

Due to Rohit’s unavailability, fast bowler and vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah will captain the team. Head supported Rohit’s priorities and said that if he was in the same situation, he would have done the same. He said, “I support Rohit’s decision 100 percent, because if I were in his place, I would have taken the same decision.”

Rohit Sharma had not left for the Australia tour with the team due to the birth of his second child, but when his son was born on 15 November, it was expected that Rohit would join the team in the first Test match to be held in Perth. Can handle the responsibility of captaincy of India but later information came that Rohit decided to spend some time with his family and wife for the time being.

“As cricketers, we sacrifice a lot of things,” Head said after a training session at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Monday. We live a privileged life, but we miss many special moments in our personal lives. You don’t get that time back. Hopefully he will enjoy his special moments and make a comeback in this series soon.”

In the absence of Rohit, India will have to take the field without its regular captain for the first match of the series. According to the information received so far, Rohit will join the team either in the middle of the first Test or before the second match to be played in Adelaide.

Despite Rohit’s lack of form early in the series, Head warned everyone against underestimating the Indian team. Referring to India’s impressive series wins in Australia in 2018-19 and 2020-21, Head said, “If you look at the past records, you cannot rule out any Indian team. Even in the last two tours, he was struggling with many problems and people raised questions on him but he performed brilliantly.”
