Washington
After winning the presidential elections in America, Donald Trump is continuously dividing departments. Recently, he has handed over the responsibility of the education department to Linda McMahon, CEO of the popular WWE i.e. World Wrestling Entertainment and professional wrestler. Before this, he has handed over government work to many big names including billionaire Elon Musk.
President-elect Trump has nominated McMahon as Secretary of the Department of Education. However, even before this she had been a part of the Trump government. McMahon led the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term from 2017 to 2019. She ran twice as the Republican Party candidate for the U.S. Senate in Connecticut but was unsuccessful.
McMahon served on the Connecticut Board of Education for a year in 2009 and spent several years on the Board of Trustees of Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. He is considered relatively unknown in the education world, although he has expressed support for ‘charter schools’ and ‘school choice’.
‘Charter schools’ in the US are publicly funded schools that operate independently of their local district. ‘School choice’ refers to education options that allow students and families to choose between public schools.
McMahon left WWE in 2009 to run for the US Senate. He is counted among those who made big donations for Trump. During the election program held in Milwaukee, he called Trump a friend. Also said that he has the privilege of calling Trump ‘colleague and boss’. During the election campaign, Trump had promised that he would close the Federal Education Department.
