Big decision of Central Government, 50 more CAPF companies will be sent to Manipur

Imphal

India’s north-eastern state Manipur is once again burning in the fire of violence. The Center has decided to send 50 CAPF companies with more than 5,000 personnel in view of the security and law and order situation in the northeastern state. Of these, 35 units will be from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the rest from the Border Security Force (BSF). CRPF Director General A.D. Singh and other senior Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) officers are also present in the state.

Meanwhile, Manipur CM N Biren Singh has called a meeting of NDA ministers and MLAs at 6 pm on Monday. Officials said that this meeting has been called so that the law and order situation can be reviewed.

This entire development is happening at a time when seven NPP MLAs have withdrawn support from the BJP-led government. The NPP claimed that the Biren Singh government in the state has proved a complete failure in solving the problem in the northeastern state. Even NPP’s withdrawal of support from BJP will not make any difference to BJP.

BJP has majority with its 32 MLAs. The N Biren Singh-led government also has the support of five Naga People’s Front MLAs and six JDU MLAs. Meanwhile, Secretary to the Chief Minister Ningthoujam Geoffrey, in a letter to the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity, urged the powerful body in the Imphal Valley to desist from any violent agitation at this critical juncture.

COCOMI had called for keeping government offices closed

COCOMI had earlier said that the Center has failed to protect the lives and properties of people from attacks and killings by Kuki-Hamari militants and will observe closure of all government offices in protest. Meanwhile, police said a protester was killed in firing during a clash between security forces and a mob that was damaging property in Jiribam district.

Police confirmed that one person was killed in the shooting, but said it was not immediately clear who opened fire, while witnesses claimed the firing came from the direction of security forces. The incident took place late on Sunday night when the agitators were damaging properties at Babupara in Jiribam police station area in protest against the killing of women and children abducted by the militants.

A police officer said that one person has died in the firing. It was not immediately clear who fired the shots. He said that the deceased has been identified as K Athoba. It was about 20 years old. A group of protesters vandalized the offices of Congress and BJP and the house of the independent MLA of Jiribam. Authorities said he brought furniture, paper and other items out of the properties and set them on fire in front of the building.

Post mortem of dead bodies of five people was done

A source said the post-mortem of the bodies of five people missing from Jiribam district has been completed at a government hospital in Assam’s Silchar town, news agency PTI reported. The bodies of five of the six people who went missing from Jiribam following an encounter between security forces and Kuki-Jo militants on November 11 were found in the Jiri river and Barak river in Cachar in Assam over the past few days and were brought to Silchar Medical College.

Not only this, a source told PTI that post-mortem of all the five bodies has been done at SMCH. The concerned doctors are in the process of preparing the report. Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party Manipur Pradesh SC Morcha vice president K Rishikant has resigned citing personal reasons. On November 15, office bearers and executive members of BJP’s Jiribam division had also submitted their resignations to the state president citing the unrest in Jiribam and entire Manipur.

What is the picture of Manipur Assembly?

BJP has 37 seats in the 60-member Manipur Assembly. The NPP, which has seven MLAs, had earlier given outside support to the Biren Singh government as it is part of the NDA. It is noteworthy that there is no threat to the N Biren Singh government due to NPP withdrawing its support.

Schools and colleges closed in Imphal

Amid curfew imposed in Imphal West and Imphal East, Manipur government announced closure of institutions, colleges including state universities in several districts. All schools and colleges in Imphal will remain closed till November 19.
