The weather is changing rapidly. The cold is about to increase. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), minimum temperatures will drop over most parts of northwest, central, east and west India in the next five days. It is expected to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius. There will be dense fog in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Bihar on Monday morning. Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Mahe. Andaman and Nicobar Islands may also receive light to moderate rainfall at many places throughout the week.
There has been fresh snowfall on the higher peaks of Kashmir Valley, including the ski resorts of Gulmarg and Gurez in Jammu and Kashmir. Due to this the temperature dropped and the minimum temperature of Gulmarg was recorded below zero. Tourist resort Gulmarg recorded its first sub-zero temperature this season, officials said. The minimum temperature in Gulmarg was recorded at minus 0.5 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg has become one of the coldest places in the valley after the snowfall. Local meteorological center officials said that Kupwara city of North Kashmir received 10.2 mm of rain in the last 24 hours.
Rapid drop in night temperature in Kashmir
According to the Meteorological Department, the night temperature in Kashmir has dropped sharply after fresh snowfall on the high peaks. The minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 4.6 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Pahalgam in South Kashmir dropped to 0.3 degrees Celsius. At the same time, amidst the changing weather in Himachal Pradesh, due to the minimum temperature being in minus in the high mountainous areas of the state, many lakes, rivers, streams and waterfalls have started freezing. For the first time this winter season, the minimum temperature in Tabo dropped to minus 7.6 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, the minimum temperature of Kukumseri and Samdo has also been recorded in minus. The mercury in Keylong has reached zero. The cold has increased considerably in the capital Shimla also.
Lowest temperature ever recorded in Delhi
The minimum temperature recorded in the national capital New Delhi on Saturday was 15.3 degrees Celsius, which is the lowest temperature of this season so far. Fog blanketed the national capital as night temperatures dropped. Cold winds blew in the morning and evening. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature was recorded at 29.6 degrees Celsius, which was 1.1 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature in the national capital on Friday was 15.6 degrees Celsius, which was the second lowest temperature of this season. Meanwhile, visibility in Safdarjung dropped to 300 meters at 8.30 am and the humidity level remained between 94 percent and 79 percent throughout the day. The Meteorological Department has predicted fog and dense fog on Sunday morning and evening. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 29 degrees Celsius and 15 degrees Celsius respectively.
