A case of forcibly shaving the head of a medical student has come to light. The matter pertains to the Government Medical College located in Khammam district of Telangana. A faculty member of a medical college has been accused of taking a student to a barber shop and forcibly shaving his head. After the matter came to light, the Telangana government has ordered an investigation.
According to officials, the matter is of November 12. The government has taken the matter seriously. Telangana Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha has ordered an investigation into the matter and asked to take action against those responsible. However officials say that this is not ragging.
Didn’t like the student’s hair style
According to Telangana government officials, initially some seniors in the hostel of the medical college told the first year student that this hairstyle was not appropriate for a medical college student. Asked him to get his hair trimmed. However, later the student got his hair trimmed. But the medical officer in charge of the anti-ragging committee and an assistant professor, who live in the same hostel, said that it looked strange. After this both of them took the student to the salon. Here his head was shaved.
Principal formed investigation committee
After the matter came to the notice of the principal, he ordered the removal of the medical officer from the hostel on Saturday and formed a committee to investigate the incident. The Principal of the Medical College said that it is not right for the Assistant Professor to be involved in such activity. On the other hand, his department says that he had no intention of doing so. He only wanted to discipline the student.
