Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture, Tourism and Religious Trusts and Endowments, Dharmendra Bhav Singh Lodhi has said that music has great importance in philosophical and spiritual traditions. Music is an integral part of our tradition. It is a medium to connect the soul with God. Music was originated by Brahma ji. He passed this knowledge on to Lord Shiva, Lord Shiva passed on it to Saraswati, Saraswati passed on the knowledge of music to Narad and then the Gandharvas and Apsaras passed on the knowledge of music. The Minister of State was addressing the inauguration program of Pt. Nand Kishore Sharma Memorial Ceremony in the intimate auditorium of Lodhi Bharat Bhawan.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) Lodhi said that Vedas are the basis of our culture and tradition, in which Samaveda is dedicated to music. The easiest medium to worship God is music. The seven notes of music are based on the scientific method. Fifth note of musical scale. The name of Nandkishore Sharma is like a light in the sky of Anhad, which will illuminate many generations. He was a true seeker of music, who dedicated his entire life to music. Minister of State Lodhi paid tribute to the great personality dedicated to music, Nand Kishore Sharma.

A two-day program focused on Indian classical singing, playing and dance is being organized by Ustad Alauddin Khan Music and Art Academy, Madhya Pradesh Culture Council, Bhopal for the Culture Department of Madhya Pradesh Government, in the memory of famous musician Pt. Nandkishore Sharma. The director of the program was Sanskriti N.P. Namdev and Academy Director Suvandana Pandey were also specially present. The program was started in the traditional manner by lighting the lamp. On this occasion, Gaurishankar Sharma, brother of Pt. Nand Kishore Sharma was specially welcomed and honored.

The first presentation of the program was traditionally done by the artists of Anushruti Vrind under the direction of Anup Sharma by presenting Vandana, which was composed by Pt. Nand Kishore Sharma. First of all Saraswati Vandana was “Maa Sharde, give us the love of your feet” and after this Guru Vandana “Guru Dev Shat-Shat Karoon Charan Vandan” presented the listeners in a state of ecstasy. Vipin Puran, Sopan Ambakelkar, Satyam Sharma, Azim Ahmed, Ravinder, Suvandana Dubey, Suvinita Chauhan, Suwaruni Sharma, Suantara Varenkar and Susuhani Singh sang in this presentation. At the same time, Shashank Mishra accompanied on tabla and Anoop Sharma on harmonium.

The second session of the first evening of Pt. Nand Kishore Sharma Memorial Ceremony was of solo tabla playing. Notable on the stage was Pandit Sanju Sahay, the famous tabla player of Banaras Tabla Gharana. Sanju Sahay, a top-class tabla player of the sixth generation of his family, has shared the stage with musicians not only from the country but from all over the world. In this function, he met his fans from Bhopal on the stage of Bharat Bhawan with a smile on his face and love in his words. Pandit Sanju Sahay chose three taals for the presentation. With the magic of his fingers, he presented the traditional Bandhis of Banaras Gharana in such a way that the listeners felt the age-old beat, pleasant experience and long meditation in their souls. Renowned musician Pt. Dharmanath Mishra accompanied him on harmonium.

The last presentation was the singing of Bhopal’s famous singer Vidushi Sulekha Bhatt and fellow artists. He chose Raga Nanda to start his presentation. In this raga full of sweetness and beauty, Sulekha Bhatt presented the bandish of Madhya Laya Rupaka Taal “Dhundhu Bare Saiya”. After this, when Vidushi Sulekha Bhatt presented the fast bandish “Payal Mori Baje” in three taals in a tinkling voice, the avid listeners got engrossed in the love of the raga. In the end, he ended his presentation by presenting the Kabir bhajan “Sunta Hai Gurugyani”. Vidushi Sulekha Bhatt was accompanied by Dr. Ashesh Upadhyay on tabla, Upendra Sahastrabuddhe of Pune on harmonium and Sukaushika Saxena and Suritu Patel on tanpura.

In the function, Mohiniyattam group dance will be presented by Kavita Shaji and Saathi, Bhopal on November 14, 2024. After this, Dr. Avinash Kumar, Delhi will present singing and Shahid Parvez Khan, Pune will present sitar playing. Hitendra Dixit, Hafiz Ahmed Alvi on tabla and Deepak Khasrawal on harmonium will be the accompanying artists on the second day of the programme. Entry into the program will be free.
