Actually, on the occasion of Devuthani Ekadashi, the marriage of a minor girl was stopped in Indore. The administration had received information that a 16 year old girl was going to get married to an 18 year old boy. This marriage was going to take place in Niranjanpur area, from where the groom was going to go to Dewas with the wedding procession.

Mahendra Pathak, in-charge of the flying squad team in the Women and Child Development Department, said that he had received information that a minor girl was going to get married in Niranjanpur. As soon as the information was received, the team reached the boy’s house, where wedding preparations were going on and the wedding procession was about to take place. Pathak told that we had received information from our control room. When we reached the boy’s house, his wedding procession was preparing to leave.

Law told to family members

Dewas district administration was also informed about this and the families of both the parties were informed about the child marriage law. Let us tell you that in India, the marriage of a boy below 21 years of age and a girl below 18 years of age is considered child marriage. Under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, 2006, the culprit can be punished with imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh or both.
