More than 75% voting took place in Madhya Pradesh’s Budhni and Vijaypur assembly by-elections despite violence and allegations of fake voting. Incidents like attack on Sector Magistrate in Vijaypur and assault on brother of Congress candidate in Budhni took place. Both the parties accused the administration and a situation of uproar continued.
Voting for the by-elections in Budhni and Vijaypur assembly constituencies of the state took place on Wednesday amidst sporadic violent incidents. Some people attacked the Sector Magistrate in Vijaypur alleging fake voting. Tables and chairs were thrown along with the fighting. There were clashes between BJP and Congress supporters at many places, firing also took place and some people got injured. Here BJP and Congress leaders were put under house arrest by the police administration. Congress candidate’s brother was beaten up in Budhni. A vehicle was also vandalized.
More than 75 percent voting
More than 75 percent voters exercised their franchise in both the constituencies. 75.5 percent voting was recorded in Budhni and 77.42 percent in Vijaypur. At the same time, leaders of both Congress and BJP accused the administration of working under pressure from each other. The Congress delegation met Chief Electoral Officer Sukhveer and raised their objection and protested by ringing a bell.
Attack on Sector Magistrate in Vijaypur
Clashes continued from morning till evening in the by-election of Vijaypur assembly constituency on Wednesday over fake voting and stopping voting. Sector Magistrate Yatendra Singh Chhari was attacked by the mob for protesting against fake voting at the Daurd polling booth. Beat up and threw tables and chairs.

In Sikheda village of Veerpur tehsil, miscreants opened fire on the villagers with machetes when they protested against booth capturing. A villager named Shivraj Jatav was injured after being shot in the leg. Five people were injured in the fight. In Andhupura village of Vijaypur tehsil, people of Shakya community accused of stopping them from voting. Congress leader Shripati Shakya, who had gone to vote with his daughter and daughter-in-law, was assaulted. In this case, Vijaypur Police has registered a case against 11 people including two teachers.
Ruckus in BJP candidate’s village
When young Ramdas Rawat, who had gone with an elderly woman to cast his vote in Sunwai, the native village of BJP candidate Ramniwas Rawat, was chased away by an armed force soldier, the villagers created a ruckus. In Moravan village of Karahal, the villagers created a ruckus when an elderly man was pushed by a policeman.
In Telipura village adjacent to Veerpur tehsil headquarters, sticks were fired between Jatav and Rawat community people over the allegation of booth capturing, then stone pelting took place. Five people were injured in the dispute. At the same time, a case was registered against many Congress leaders who staged a protest at the Collectorate over firing and attack on tribal families and were sent to jail.

After this, Congress state president Jitu Patwari was reaching Sheopur via Jhalawar-Baran in Rajasthan. He was stopped at Kuhanjapur bridge on the border of the district, while BJP state president VD Sharma, who was reaching Sheopur towards Shivpuri, was also stopped at Bansariya village.
Earlier, due to fear of uproar, shortly after the start of voting, Congress candidate Mukesh Malhotra was put under house arrest in Karahal and BJP candidate Ramniwas Rawat in the rest house in Mandi. Both were released conditionally after 4 pm.
Congress candidate’s brother assaulted in Budhni, car glass broken
Clashes broke out between BJP-Congress workers at some places during voting for Budhni Assembly by-election. Shahganj polling station Congress candidate Rajkumar Patel’s younger brother was beaten up. During this period vehicles were also vandalized. Congress alleges that this attack was carried out by BJP workers.
Congress candidate Rajkumar Patel alleged that there was open hooliganism on the part of the ruling party. People were prevented from voting. Pressure is also being created to vote in your favor. Congress workers reached the police station to protest against the assault. After that the police increased strictness in and around the polling station.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has voted in village Jait along with his family. Whereas Congress candidate Rajkumar Patel voted with his wife at booth number nine of Baktara. BJP candidate Ramakant Bhargava cast his vote at polling station number 54. Till 5 pm, 72.37 percent voting had taken place.
