Haryana is counted among the few prosperous states of the country. It is far ahead in terms of per capita income and in many rural districts beats all the urban areas of the country. Even after this, one figure is shocking everyone that 70 percent of the people in Haryana come under BPL. This has come to light from the data of the state Consumer and Supply Affairs Ministry. According to The Tribune report, a total of 1.98 crore people are included in the Aadhaar-driven public distribution system of the state, while the total population of the state itself is considered to be 2.8 crore. In this way, 70 percent people of Haryana are taking advantage of the facility like free ration.
This is surprising because in the per capita income figures released only last year, Haryana is at second place. Karnataka is at number one, where the per capita income is beyond Rs 3 lakh. Haryana is at second place, where the per capita annual income is Rs 2,96,685. Even industrial states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat are lagging behind. Still, it is shocking that the number of BPL card holders is so high.
This figure has increased rapidly in recent times. The data of April this year was that 63 percent people came under the ambit of BPL and now this figure has increased to 70 percent. It is believed that during the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, a campaign might have been launched with the aim of increasing the number of beneficiaries and due to that this figure has increased. Interestingly, in December 2022 this number was only 1.24 crore, which is now going to increase to about two crore. In this way, within the last two years, 75 lakh people have been added to BPL.
What benefits do BPL get in the state, plot also announced
BPL card holders get 5 kg ration per person every month, while two liters of oil is available at the rate of Rs 40. Apart from this, sugar is given at the rate of Rs 13.5 per kg. It is surprising how the number of BPL is continuously increasing in Haryana, which is called prosperous. Recently Naib Singh Saini government had said that 100 square yard plot will also be given to BPL families in rural areas. It is believed that due to this the numbers are increasing. About 10 lakh quintals of ration is distributed every month in the state.
The question was raised even during the tenure of Manohar Lal Khattar government.
There is also a question that if there are so many BPL in Haryana, then what happened to the development claims of the state government. If his claims are true then why is the number of BPL continuously increasing instead of decreasing. This issue was raised even during the time of Manohar Lal Khattar government. Then it was said that the cards were made on the basis of the income figures given by the people. In such a situation, the question is whether there should be any authentic way or not so that whatever data people are giving can be checked.
