Beijing
A car rammed into a group of people outside a sports center in China’s southern city of Zhuhai, killing 35 people and injuring 43 others. Chinese President Xi Jinping has promised to make every possible effort to treat those injured in a car collision in China’s Zhuhai city.

Police say 35 people have been killed and 43 injured after a driver plowed into a crowd in the city of Zhuhai. Police said on Monday that the 62-year-old driver has been detained. It was not immediately clear whether it was an attack or an accident. No motive was mentioned and police said the investigation was ongoing.

The incident, which took place on Monday night, is being subject to strict censorship as the Zhuhai Airshow started on Tuesday. Police identified the man only by his family name Fan, in line with practice followed by Chinese authorities. The police statement said the vehicle struck “several” pedestrians on Monday evening.
