The Champions Trophy is to be held in Pakistan early next year, but India has refused to send its team. Since then, there is intense stir in Pakistan from the Cricket Board (PCB) to the government.
The latest news is that after receiving the official notice of refusal from India, the Pakistan Cricket Control Board (PCB) has approached its government. PCB asked the government what to do next?
Pakistan government’s stance will decide the future of Champions Trophy
- Now everything depends on the stance of Pakistan government. It is believed that the Pakistan government may also ask the PCB to respond on the lines of BCCI.
- Meaning, PCB can say that even if the Indian team does not play, the Champions Trophy will be organized in Pakistan only. Pakistan is also going to reject the proposal of hybrid model.
- In the hybrid model, it was proposed that on the lines of Asia Cup, India’s matches should be played in any other country outside Pakistan. However, this time Pakistan will not be ready for it.
Champions Trophy 2025: What’s possible next?
There are indications that the Pakistan government may also ask its cricket board to adopt a tough stance. Meaning, PCB will say that even if Team India comes, the event will be held in Pakistan only. India’s absence will impact the entire tournament. After this the ball will be in ICC’s court to decide what it does.
Displeasure in Pakistan over India’s stance
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had told the International Cricket Council (ICC) last week that the team will not go to Pakistan to play the Champions Trophy. Now ICC sent the information to PCB through official email.
Since then there is resentment against India in Pakistan cricket. Many former cricketers of Pakistan are openly speaking against India. Javed Miandad has said that now Pakistan should also not play any match against India.
PCB officials are also saying that we ensured complete security of the Indian team. All the matches of India were held in one city. Even after this, BCCI not sending the team is disappointing. BCCI has not given any reason for not sending the team.
