Chhattisgarh government has changed the rules of civic elections. Along with this, Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Ordinance 2024 has been published. Now it will be convenient to hold both Panchayat and civic elections together. In such a situation, in the coming time both the elections will be held simultaneously in Chhattisgarh.
The way has been cleared for holding urban body and panchayat elections simultaneously in Chhattisgarh. The state government has changed the rules of civic elections. The changed rules have also been published in the Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Ordinance 2024. After this, the system can be maintained even for six months after the end of the term of civic elections.
This will facilitate holding of both the elections simultaneously till the time of Panchayat elections. According to the notification issued, if the Municipality and Nagar Panchayat are not reorganized before the completion of the electoral term of the bodies, then the State Government will be able to make arrangements and get the further work done for six months.
A five-member committee was formed
However, it will be mandatory to hold re-elections within this six months. If there is any error in the voter list, it can be amended. It is noteworthy that some time ago the state government had formed a five-member committee under the chairmanship of IAS Richa Sharma to conduct Panchayat-body elections simultaneously.
The committee had also recommended holding simultaneous elections. Urban Administration Minister Arun Sao says that now people will have the right to choose their leader. Congress had changed the election system due to fear of defeat. Here, State Congress Communication Department Chairman Sushil Anand Shukla alleged that the BJP government wants to advance the elections of local bodies due to fear of defeat.

Municipal Commissioner gives green signal to home voting team
Home voting under Raipur South Assembly by-election 2024 has started on Tuesday from November 5. Under the guidance of Collector and District Election Officer Dr. Gaurav Singh, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Abinash Mishra flagged off the voting chariot for home voting from the Collectorate premises on Tuesday. Also, all the personnel of the polling party were welcomed by giving flowers.
For the by-election, four different voting chariots will reach the assembly and conduct home voting. Voting facilities are being provided to elderly and disabled voters above 85 years of age through Voting Rath. Voting material was distributed to all the polling parties today and they have been dispatched. Home voting facility will run from November 5 to November 7, 2024.
