After the death of one elephant in Takhatpur range, surveillance of other four elephants of the team has been increased. A special team has been put on duty to keep an eye. The team members are also giving location information to the officials. Two days ago, a baby elephant was found dead in Tingipur of Takhatpur range. Death occurred due to contact with live wire.
During the investigation into the death of the baby elephant, an axe, saw, GI wire and service wire were recovered from the possession of the villager. Which was used to carry out the incident. The Forest Department received information about this incident on Friday evening. As soon as it was known that the elephant had given birth to a baby, the officials were shocked. The officers of the department immediately reached the spot. During investigation it was found that someone had laid a live wire. Who died after being hit by it.
Crime registered under Wildlife Protection Act
During this time, the villager in whose field the elephant had died was first called. During investigation of the field, three pegs were found. Apart from this, two axes, a saw, 200 meter GI wire and 100 meter service wire were recovered. This farm owner Kamal Singh and his son Manoj Markam were arrested. Interrogation was going on after the arrest. Apart from this, the case was prepared. An offense was registered against both of them under the Wildlife Protection Act. On Monday, the father and son were presented in the court along with the case.
Search for three more accused
During interrogation, the department got information about the involvement of three more villagers in the case. He has also been identified. The Forest Department team is searching for them. The houses of all three were also raided. But, he was not found. All three are absconding since the incident.
Increased surveillance of all four elephants, currently roaming in Achanakmar Tiger Reserve
Since the incident, concerns have increased regarding the safety of the other four elephants. This is the reason why they are being monitored. Presently all four elephants are visible between Surhi and Achanakmar range.
A day ago, some damage was also caused in Surhi range. The villagers are in panic after this incident. However, they have been advised that there is no threat to anyone from the elephant. Just need to be careful. The Forest Department is monitoring.
Information will also be given when the team reaches the village. The management believes that the presence of elephants will continue like this until the crop is harvested. After this they are expected to return to their permanent location.
