Madhya Pradesh High Court acquitted two women in the case of murder of a man in 2008. However, one of these two women, Suraj Bai, had to spend 14 years in jail. A division bench comprising Justice GS Ahluwalia and Justice Vishal Mishra directed the trial court to initiate action against the prosecution witnesses for perjury and giving evidence.
Suraj Bai was accused of killing her brother-in-law with the help of her relative Bhuri Bai and trying to make the incident look like suicide by hanging the body from a tree. The court gave him relief last week. On October 16, the court, while accepting his appeal against the conviction, in its order directed the immediate release of Suraj Bai from jail.
