A very shocking incident happened with a family who had gone to have dinner in a hotel in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. As soon as a female member of the family ate fennel seeds and sugar candy kept on the counter after having food, she suddenly started having a severe burning sensation in her mouth and severe swelling appeared on her face. After which he was taken to the hospital and had to be admitted to the ICU. Later it was found that on the counter, not sugar candy along with fennel, but caustic soda which looked like sugar candy was kept, due to consumption of which the condition of the woman deteriorated.
This incident is being reported from Piplani police station area of the city on the night of 20th October. Giving information about the incident, Piplani police station in-charge Anurag Lal said that Vishnu Pandey, who lives in Ishan Apartment, had gone with his family to have dinner at Hotel Ocean Breeze on Sunday night. After finishing dinner, his sister Rani went to the reception and ate the fennel seeds and sugar candy kept there.
As soon as she ate fennel and sugar candy, the queen felt a very strange taste and suddenly her mouth started burning. After which the queen immediately spit it out, but by then her face had become swollen. Meanwhile, hearing their screams, other people also gathered there. Seeing the condition of his sister, Vishnu Pandey asked the employee present at the reception about fennel and sugar candy. After this, when the employee took out the sugar candy box kept inside, it turned out to be caustic soda. The hotel employee had kept it at the reception, mistaking it for sugar candy.
Caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) is as hot as acid and is used in most laundry applications. Caustic soda is used extensively in hotels to easily clean oil and spice stains from table cloth, dirty bedsheets and clothes.
After receiving the complaint, the police have registered a case against a hotel employee who was negligent. When the police reached the hotel and investigated, the staff told that it was a mistake because of their similar appearance. However, how the caustic soda reached the reception, whether it was a result of negligence or a deliberate act as part of a conspiracy, is currently being investigated by the police.
Police said that the condition of the woman admitted in the hospital is currently out of danger and her statement will be recorded in this case soon.
