A report has been submitted to the Supreme Court by Tamil Nadu Police regarding Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev’s Isha Foundation. There is no evidence of illegal confinement in the ashram. Let us tell you that the investigation against the ashram started after the order of Madras High Court on September 30. The court had directed the police to investigate claims that two women, aged 38 and 42, were being held hostage at an ashram in Thondamuthur, Coimbatore.

A retired professor from Coimbatore had alleged that his daughters were being held illegally. The father claimed that he was forced to join the monastic path of the ashram and was prevented from going out. After these allegations, the High Court had ordered a police investigation. After this, a large police team of 150 officers entered the ashram premises for investigation on October 1.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India Dhananjay Y Chandrachud had on October 3 stayed the investigation being conducted by the police at the foundation’s ashram in Thondamuthur, Coimbatore. Along with this, the Supreme Court of the country had transferred this case from the High Court to itself. The court had directed the police to submit the investigation report.

The police report prepared by the Coimbatore Superintendent of Police states that both the women have categorically denied their father’s claims. Both of them said that they are living in the ashram of their own free will. It has been said in the report that both the women are quite educated. His physical and mental health is good. He emphasized that he had chosen the monastic path at Isha Yoga Center of his own free will. They are not living there under any pressure or force.

The women also told the police that both of them meet their parents regularly. Recently she met her parents on June 7, 2024, on their anniversary. The police report also includes CCTV footage of their meetings with their parents as well as hand-written statements by the women. The women made it clear that their relationship with their father only deteriorated when he continued to make public allegations about his imprisonment. These allegations were false.

According to the report, out of a total of 217 Brahmacharis (monks) living at the Isha Foundation, 30 were interviewed. Everyone confirmed that they were living there of their own free will. The report emphasized that women were living a healthy lifestyle. One of them also participated in the 10 kilometer marathon.
