BJP MLA Brij Bihari Pateria from Deori assembly seat in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh suddenly resigned on Thursday night. A few hours after resigning, after being reprimanded by the organization, he backed down on his resignation and also ended the strike. According to party sources, Patria had sat on a dharna with his supporters at Kesli police station at night and had told the media about sending his resignation letter to the Assembly Speaker. After this, late in the night, State President Vishnudutt Sharma and the organization became active and after being reprimanded, Patria ended the dharna and released a video and retracted the talk of resignation.
Patria said in a video message within a few hours that it was natural that he was the subject of outrage. It was an unfortunate moment when I took that step under the influence of anger. The party is with me. Honorable Chief Minister is with us. The entire organization, the divisional president, all those workers are with me, who have taken me to this position. Now I will follow all their instructions and orders. I will follow the orders of the Honorable Speaker and Chief Minister. There is no question of resignation now.
Before this, a sudden news came late on Thursday night that Patria had resigned from the post of MLA and he was sitting on a dharna with his supporters in the Kesli police station premises of Sagar district. Patria had reached Kesli police station and due to alleged FIR of a victim not being registered, he wrote a resignation letter from there and sent it to the Assembly Speaker and the Secretariat. Then he had said that he does not want to do such legislation when the MLA of the ruling party is not even listened to.
After the news of Patria’s resignation, the state BJP organization and government machinery also became active. Late in the night, the state president and the organization explained strictly to Patria over the phone, then he issued a statement retracting his call for immediate resignation. It is reported that Patria was severely reprimanded over the phone.
Patria was earlier in Congress and had also represented Deori assembly constituency on its ticket more than two decades ago. He contested the November-December 2023 elections from Deori on a BJP ticket and emerged victorious. The total number of BJP members in the 230-member assembly is 163, while Congress has 64 MLAs. One MLA is from Bharat Adivasi Party and two seats Budhni and Vijaypur are vacant.
