Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu says that he will never let India’s security be affected. During a recent interview, he gave this reaction to a question asked about China. The special thing is that Muizzu reached India on Sunday. He is going to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. He has described India as an important partner of Maldives.
The special thing is that after Muizzu, who was considered pro-China, took over the government, relations between India and Maldives had become strained. During this, many things were included including the controversial comments of his ministers regarding PM Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep.
When Muizzu was asked that you are working with China, can India be confident that Maldives will not do anything that will affect India’s defense interests. On this he told the newspaper that Maldives will never do anything that would weaken India’s security. He said that India is an important partner and friend of Maldives and our relationship is based on mutual respect and common interests.
He said that as we increase our cooperation with other countries in different areas, we are committed to ensuring that our actions do not affect the security and stability of the region. He also said that Maldives will continue to value its longstanding relations with India and we are confident that our interactions with other countries will not undermine India’s security interests.
Even before this, Muizzu and PM Modi had met PM Modi during COP28. He also attended PM Modi’s third consecutive swearing-in ceremony as a guest along with other countries.
