However, this is wrong information. The truth was put forward by the Goa Police itself, in which it was told that the viral video is of a recent accident in Congo. A steamer packed with passengers capsized, resulting in the death of 78 people. X A user had described this video from Congo as from Goa. Also, he claimed that 23 people died in this boat accident and 64 are still missing.

X user wrote in his post, ‘An overloaded steamer met with an accident in Goa today. After this accident, 40 people were rescued and 64 are missing. Also, bodies of 23 people have been recovered. The post claimed that the accident occurred due to the greed of the boat owner. As soon as this misleading post went viral, Goa Police swung into action and immediately issued a clarification. Police said that fake video is being shared. This accident is not from Goa, rather this accident took place in Congo recently.

What did Goa Police say in its statement

A statement issued by police officials said, ‘In a viral video on social media, it was claimed that a boat capsized near the coast of Goa. This is wrong information. This accident took place in Goma, Congo in Africa. An appeal has been made by Goa Police that this fake post should not be shared. Let us tell you that a boat carrying hundreds of passengers capsized in Lake Kivu in the eastern part of the Central African country Congo. 78 people died in this accident.

Tragic accident of boat capsizing in Congo

Jean-Jacques Purussi, the governor of South Kivu province, said there were 278 people on board. Eyewitnesses said that there were more passengers on the boat than its capacity. The boat sank a few meters away from Kituku port. The incident occurred when the boat was traveling from Minova in South Kivu province to Goma in North Kivu province. Earlier in June, 80 passengers lost their lives when a ferry sank near the capital Kinshasa. In January, 22 people died when a boat capsized in Lake Mai-Ndombe.
