In Madhya Pradesh, cyber criminals have defrauded a scientist of lakhs of rupees by digitally arresting him. In Indore on Friday, a police officer said that fraudsters duped an employee of an institute of Atomic Energy Department of Rs 71 lakh by ‘digitally arresting’ him. Digital arrest is a new form of cyber fraud in which criminals make audio or video calls, pretend to be law enforcement officers and defraud victims by detaining them in their homes.

Additional Deputy Police Commissioner Rajesh Dandotiya said, ‘A member of the gang called the victim, who worked as a scientific assistant at Raja Ramanna Advanced Technology Center (RRCAT), on September 1 and introduced himself as an official of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The officer told. This fake TRAI officer claimed that illegal advertisements and text messages related to women harassment are being sent to people through the SIM card issued in his name from Delhi.

Dandotiya said, ‘The fraudster told the victim that an arrest warrant has been issued against him in a case related to money laundering and human trafficking. Another member of the gang, posing as a CBI officer, fakely interrogated the RRCAT employee and his wife through video call. Due to fear, he deposited Rs 71.33 lakh in various accounts mentioned by the accused. He said that efforts are on to nab the accused.

Cheated on the pretext of renting a flat by pretending to be an army officer

On the other hand, there is a gang active in Noida, which calls the owner to rent a flat. He sends his documents posing as an army officer. Then on the pretext of paying rent in advance, he asks for a scanner and hacks the mobile of the flat owner and withdraws the amount from the account. According to Noida Police officials, when a person places an online advertisement for renting a flat on a property buying and selling website, then after seeing the advertisement, a person calls the owner from an unknown number.
