One person died in a fire that broke out in an illegally operated chemical unit in a three-storey house located in Juni Indore police station area of Indore late on Wednesday evening, while 4 to 5 people were rescued safely. Police said that work related to highly flammable chemicals was done in the house, hence the fire spread very quickly.
Giving information about this, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Anand Yadav said that this accident took place in a unit operated on the ground floor of a house in Juni Indore police station area, in which a person named Abdul Qadir (55), father Saifuddin, died.
Yadav said that Qadir had taken the ground floor of the house on rent about a year ago, and here he was running a small unit dealing with chemicals like acid and thinner. He further said that many people trapped on the upper floors of the house were safely rescued by the police, including two women.
He said that a detailed investigation is being conducted into this incident and the operation of the chemical unit. On the other hand, Assistant Police Commissioner Devendra Singh Dhurve said that two vehicles and some goods kept on the upper floor were also burnt to ashes in the incident. Meanwhile, on receiving information about the fire, regional MLA Malini Laxman Singh Gaur reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
Angered by the incident, local residents alleged that the chemical unit was being operated illegally in the residential area.
On the other hand, regarding this incident, DCP Rishikesh Meena said, ‘In this incident, a 55-year-old man has died on the spot, there is no information about any other casualty. 4 to 5 people have been rescued from the first floor of the building, currently investigation is going on. The fire has been completely controlled and the body of the deceased has been shifted to the mortuary. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the cause of the fire was short circuit.
