Eight people died due to drowning in four separate incidents in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. Most of these incidents occurred when the victims were taking a dip in the river during worship on the occasion of Sarva Pitru Amavasya. Of the eight, three died in Khargone district, two in Omkareshwar, two in Morena and one in Shajapur. The dead include three minor girls and two women.
Giving information about this, an official said that three girls, including two sisters, drowned in the Choral river under Balwara police station area in Khargone district, while another girl was saved. District Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDOP) Archana Rawat said that the girls had gone to the river with a group to perform religious rituals. Meanwhile, one of the girls slipped and fell into the water, after which three other girls tried to save her. Rawat said that the deceased have been identified as sisters Anshika (10), Meenakshi (12) and Karishma (14).
Manohar Singh, a police officer of Shajapur district, said that a 30-year-old man drowned while taking bath at the confluence of Parvati and Ajnala rivers on the occasion of Sarva Pitru Amavasya in the district, while his 19-year-old nephew went missing. The deceased was identified as Kripal Singh Mewada. The official said National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have launched an operation to find Nirmal Mewada, nephew of the deceased. However, his identity was not known till the time of writing the news.
Morena Additional Superintendent of Police Arvind Thakur said that in Morena district, Rahul Kushwaha (18) and his brother Megh Singh (15) drowned in the Kunwari river in Bada village of Kailaras police station area at around 11 am in the morning. The official said the boys had gone to the river with their father to perform rituals on the occasion of Sarva Pitru Moksha Amavasya.
On the other hand, Khandwa’s Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Raghuvanshi said that in Khandwa district, two women named Renu Patidar (40) and Niharika Patidar (18), who were relatives, were taking bath in the Narmada river in Omkareshwar on the occasion of Sarva Pitru Moksha Amavasya.
