Be it a temple or a dargah, it will have to be removed from the middle of the road, Supreme Court’s big comment on bulldozer action.

The Supreme Court has given a strong reaction to the bulldozer action. The top court says that public safety comes first and it is necessary to remove any religious structure from the roads. On Tuesday, petitions were being heard in the court against the bulldozer action against those accused of the crime. Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Vishwanathan conducted the hearing.

The court says that people’s safety is paramount. He said that whether it is a temple or a dargah, any religious structure blocking the road, waterway or rail track needs to be removed. The court has also emphasized that India is a secular country and its order regarding bulldozer action will be for all citizens, no matter what religion they belong to.

The bench said, ‘We are a secular country. And our instructions will be for everyone. No matter which religion or community he belongs to. Temple or Dargah or Gurudwaha, if there is any religious structure in the middle of the road then it cannot become a hindrance for the public. Justice Gavai said, ‘There should be a law for unauthorized constructions. It should not depend on religion.

The bench had said on September 17 that without its permission, the properties of the accused and others would not be demolished till October 1. The bench had said that if there is even a single case of illegal demolition then it is against the ‘values’ of our Constitution.

The court had clarified that its order would not apply to unauthorized structures built on public places like roads, footpaths, railway lines or water bodies and would also not apply to cases in which demolition has been ordered by the court.
