Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the men’s and women’s chess teams on winning gold medals at the Chess Olympiad. The Prime Minister said that this remarkable achievement marks a new chapter in sports for India. India created history on Sunday by winning titles in the men’s and women’s team categories. This was the first time that the Indian team won a gold medal in this tournament.

Veteran player and five-time world champion Vishwanathan Anand also congratulated the Indian men’s and women’s teams for winning gold medals for the first time in the Chess Olympiad, calling it the result of amazing play. Indian men’s team remained undefeated in the tournament
The men’s team of D Gukesh, Arjun Erigesi, R Praggnanandhaa, Vidit Gujarati and P Harikrishna remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and scored 21 out of a total of 22 points. In men’s category, America won silver and Uzbekistan won bronze. The women’s team of D Harika, R Vaishali, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agarwal and Tania Sachdev scored 19 points. Kazakhstan got silver and America got bronze. The individual performance of the Indian players was also excellent. Earlier, the Indian men’s team won bronze in 2014 and 2022 and the women won bronze in 2022.
