Nav Bharat Literacy Program is being run to teach reading and writing to people above the age of 15 years who are deprived of education in the state. In this program, basic literacy and numerical assessment examination was conducted simultaneously in 52 districts on Sunday, 22 September. More than 15 lakh students took part in the literacy examination. Participation of women was higher in the examination. The literacy program in the state is being run by the School Education Department. So far, the number of newly literate people who have passed in the state has exceeded 82 lakh 53 thousand.
Use of digital technology in literacy programs
Digital technology is being used to bring transparency in the Nav Bharat Literacy Program ‘Ullas’. For this, an app has been developed by the State Literacy Mission Authority constituted in the state. Door-to-door survey and literacy classes are being monitored through geo tags. This program is being conducted to teach basic literacy numeracy along with important life skills like financial literacy, legal awareness, digital literacy and vocational skills to illiterate people in the state who do not have the knowledge of basic literacy or do not have a literacy certificate. The help of voluntary organizations, youth, NCC and Scout Guide cadets is being taken in the literacy program. Illiterate people in the state are being taught through “Ullas Akshar Pothi”. The entry of the candidates appearing in the examination held on Sunday has been made on the online portal.
Representatives of the Central Government were involved in monitoring
Representatives of the Literacy Department of the Union Ministry of Education participated in the Basic Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Examination. The representatives reached the rural areas of Bhopal, Raisen, Sehore and Dewas districts and monitored the examination. The Nav Bharat Literacy Program Ullas has started in the state from the year 2022 and this program will run continuously till the year 2027. So far 3 evaluation examinations have been conducted. The volunteers involved in the Ullas Nav Bharat Literacy Program have been named Akshar Saathi. Literacy related courses are being delivered through videos through WhatsApp groups, YouTube and portals.
