National Lok Adalat: Chhattisgarh got historic success, more than 8 lakh 84 thousand cases were resolved

Raipur

The third National Lok Adalat was organized in the state of Chhattisgarh. Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court-cum-Chief Patron Shri Justice Ramesh Sinha inspected the proceedings of Lok Adalat by connecting with all the 23 District and Sessions Courts of the state through virtual mode by Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority. Chief Justice Shri Ramesh Sinha interacted and discussed with the Chief District Judges of all the districts and the presiding officers of other division benches and took stock of the progress of Lok Adalat and encouraged them by guiding them to resolve as many cases as possible.

The Chief Justice also visited both the division benches constituted in connection with the National Lok Adalat in the High Court Bilaspur and while taking stock of the proceedings of the Lok Adalat, told the advocates and parties to get their cases resolved through Lok Adalat. While the Chief Justice’s inspection of all 23 districts through virtual mode shows the use of modern technology in judicial proceedings, this initiative of the Honourable Chief Justice, apart from encouraging the presiding officers, members and parties of the Lok Adalat, will create confidence in the parties and provide more credibility and authenticity to the Lok Adalat.

It is noteworthy that Chief Justice Mr. Justice Ramesh Sinha had held a meeting with the Chief District Judges of all the districts regarding the preparations for the National Lok Adalat and provided guidance by continuously supervising them. After the Chief Justice took charge in the Chhattisgarh High Court, the concept of quick, accessible and cheap justice in Chhattisgarh has been realised and prompt justice is being provided to the people through Lok Adalat. In the National Lok Adalat organised in the state of Chhattisgarh from the High Court to the Taluka level courts as well as in the Revenue Courts, more than 8 lakh 84 thousand cases were resolved and awards of more than Rs 229 crore were passed. It was important in this National Lok Adalat that the parties who could not come to the District Court due to floods in Sukma district were connected through video conferencing and the cases were resolved on the basis of compromise.
