Due to the excellent performance of the bowlers led by experienced fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah, India bundled out Bangladesh’s first innings for 149 runs in the third session of the second day of the opening Test of the two-match series. India had scored 376 runs in the first innings. On the basis of the first innings, Bangladesh is 227 runs behind India. This is the fifth lowest score of Bangladesh’s team in a Test against India. Earlier in 2019, Bangladesh’s team was bundled out for a score of 106.

For India, Bumrah took four wickets for 50 runs in 11 overs. Mohammad Siraj, Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja got two wickets each. For Bangladesh, former captain Shakib Al Hasan contributed 32 runs while Mehdi Hasan Miraz contributed an unbeaten 27 runs. Bangladesh team had made the lowest score against India in the year 2000. The team was expecting a good innings from the middle order batsmen after this but they did not show enthusiasm and lost five wickets while adding 85 runs in 27 overs in the second session.

The biggest disappointment for the team was Liton Das (22 runs in 42 balls) and Shakib Al Hasan (32 runs in 64 balls). Both these experienced batsmen lost their wickets by playing aggressive shots after spending time at the crease. Both of them made a partnership of 51 runs in 94 balls for the sixth wicket. Liton tried to play a sweep shot against Jadeja (two wickets for 18 runs) and was caught by Dhruv Jurel.

Shakib played reverse sweep against this left-arm bowler but he was not lucky. The ball hit the bottom edge of his bat, bounced on his shoe and bounced in the air and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant ran and caught the catch. After this, Bumrah dismissed Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed. Siraj ended Bangladesh’s first innings by clean bowling Nahid Rana.
