Lord Ganesh’s laddu auctioned for Rs 30 lakh, BJP leader placed the bid; what is special about it

Laddus from Telangana’s Balapur Ganesh temple fetched a record bid of Rs 30.1 lakh on Tuesday. This auction, a major attraction of the Ganesh festival, takes place every year before the idol of Balapur Ganesh is taken in a grand procession to Hussainsagar lake for immersion. This year’s bidder was BJP leader Kolanu Shankar Reddy.

Similar auctions were held at various Ganesh temples in other areas of the city. The Balapur laddu auction was attended by several prominent politicians and business personalities. Notably, in the year 2023, Balapur laddu was auctioned for Rs 27 lakh. Meanwhile, another laddu auction held at Keerthi Richmond Villa under Bandlaguda municipal limits in Rangareddy district fetched bids of Rs 1.87 crore, which was Rs 67 lakh higher than last year’s price of Rs 1.26 crore.

This tradition of laddu auction started in 1994. The local people here believe that this laddu is lucky for them. It provides wealth, prosperity and good luck along with good health. This laddu is auctioned every year before the idol immersion. The money received from this is used in development work.

Balapur is on the southern edge of Hyderabad. Similarly, Khairtabad Ganesh Puja is also famous in Hyderabad. Thousands of devotees reach here to have darshan. It is said that the country’s tallest idol is installed here. (With inputs from Bhasha)
