In Sweden, screen use has been banned for children under the age of two. The advisory issued by the government clearly states that children should not be allowed to use any screen, including TV and mobile phones.
The consultation says that children between two and five years can use screen for a maximum of one hour a day, while children between six and 12 years can use screen for two hours. It says that adolescents should be allowed to use screen for a maximum of three hours a day.
The Swedish government has issued this advisory at a time when various researches have shown that due to excessive use of ‘screen’, the quality of sleep in children and adolescents is getting affected, cases of depression are increasing and the level of physical activity is continuously decreasing.
Countries like America, Ireland, Canada, Australia and France have also issued such advisories. Out of these, France has issued the strictest advisory that children below three years of age should not be allowed to use ‘screen’ at all.
