Security forces achieved a major success on Friday in Chhattisgarh’s Naxal-affected Sukma district when two Naxals, carrying a bounty of Rs 16 lakh on their head, surrendered before the police.
Giving information about this, an official said that Madkam Sanna (35) and Madkam Muya (22) were members of the Maoists’ People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Battalion No. 1, which is active in South Bastar. A reward of Rs 8 lakh each was announced on both of them.
The officer said that both of them surrendered before senior police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials after being disappointed by the atrocities being committed by senior Maoists and their inhuman and hollow Maoist ideology.
He also said that both the Naxalites are also influenced by the Naxal eradication policy of the state government and the rehabilitation campaign of Sukma Police ‘Puna Narkom’ (a word in local Gondi dialect, meaning new dawn, new beginning).
Of these, Sanna was involved in several attacks on security personnel, including the Burkapal Maoist attack in 2017 in which 25 CRPF personnel were killed and the Tekalguda incident in 2021 in which 22 jawans were martyred, the official said.
While Muya was allegedly involved in attacks on police teams, he said the local police, the intelligence wing of the CRPF’s 219th battalion and neighbouring Odisha police played a key role in the surrender of the two. The surrendered Naxalites have been given a monetary help of Rs 25,000 each and will be rehabilitated as per the government policy, the official said.
Earlier on Thursday, a rewarded Naxalite surrendered before the security forces in Dhamtari district. According to the police, Sitanadi area committee member and Naxalite deputy commander Ajay alias Aghan (26) surrendered before the security forces. A reward of Rs 5 lakh was announced on this Naxalite. Giving information about this, an officer had said that Ajay alias Aghan was active as a deputy commander and area committee member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) in Sitanadi.
Officials said that Naxal Ajay decided to surrender after getting fed up with the hollow ideology, discriminatory behaviour, neglect and torture of the Maoists. They said that the Naxal was accused of being involved in many Maoist incidents including murder of a villager, attack on a police team, planting landmines etc.
