Ashmita and Malvika out in first round of Japan Open

India’s Ashmita Chaliha and Malvika Bansod were eliminated after losing in the opening round of the women’s singles event of the Japan Open Super 750 badminton tournament here on Tuesday.

While Ashmita lost to top seed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei 16-21, 12-21, Malvika was knocked out by Ukraine’s Polina Buhrova 23-21, 21-19.

Aakarshi Kashyap is also presenting her challenge in women’s singles from India. She will face Kim Ga Eun of South Korea in the first round.

None of the Indian badminton players participating in the Paris Olympics are playing in this tournament.
