Lightning wreaked havoc in Chhattisgarh on Friday. Three women were killed and seven others were injured due to lightning in the state’s Jashpur district. Officials gave this information on Saturday. Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai has expressed grief over these incidents that took place on Friday. He has directed the local administration to provide proper medical assistance to the injured.
An official said that while two women lost their lives and seven others were injured due to lightning in Chandamuda village under Pathalgaon police station area, a woman died in a similar incident in Baghbahar police station area. According to officials, the victims were working in paddy fields when they were struck by lightning which suddenly fell from the sky.
Police have identified the deceased as Shraddha Yadav (35), Rakhi Penkara (20) and Akhiyaro Minj (40). He said that out of the seven injured, three have been admitted to a hospital in Ambikapur in neighboring Surguja district, while four are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Pathalgaon. The officer said that the family of each deceased will be given a compensation of Rs 4 lakh. Let us tell you that in Surguja division, which has six districts including Jashpur, reports of deaths due to lightning during monsoon are frequent.
State Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai wrote in a post on Twitter on Saturday, “Sad news has been received about the death of three women and injuries to many others in incidents of lightning in Jashpur district. The injured women were admitted to the hospital by the district administration. The district administration has been instructed to provide them better treatment.” The CM expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
