Manu Rishi became emotional remembering Irrfan Khan. In an interview given to The Red Mike, he said, ‘When the news came that Irrfan Khan had passed away, I went to Kokilaben Hospital to see him for the last time. When I was standing downstairs waiting for Irrfan Bhai’s body to arrive, I got a call from my assistant on my phone. She said, ‘Sir, take me along too, I was with Sir in English medium, I want to stay with him.’ I went out to pick her up and in the meantime Irrfan Bhai’s body was taken away in an ambulance and that girl also went straight there. I called my driver, but he did not pick up the phone.’

Manu further said, ‘I felt that what sin did I commit that I am not getting the chance to see Irrfan Bhai for the last time. Then I left for home disappointed. There is a cemetery in front of my house, so I thought I will try once, maybe I will get a glimpse of Irrfan Bhai. Everyone was standing outside the cemetery because no one was being allowed to go inside due to Covid. I was also standing there. I had no relation with the policeman who was standing there. I don’t know why he only allowed me to come inside. I placed Irrfan Bhai on that one stone with my own hands, bathed him with my own hands, applied sandalwood with my own hands and then picked him up and buried him. This was my last hug for him.’
