Norway’s Karsten Warholm has missed out on winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics. 28-year-old Warholm participates in the 400m hurdles event. In 2021, he broke the 29-year-old world record for this event. Then he was successful in winning the gold medal by breaking his own record at the Tokyo Olympics. After that, he also won the gold at the 2023 World Championships. But Karsten Warholm had to settle for the silver medal at the Paris Olympics.
Cricketer’s son won gold
Roy Benjamin, son of former West Indies cricketer Winston Benjamin, has won the gold medal in this event. He is participating in the Olympics on behalf of America. This is the first time he has won the gold medal by defeating Karsten Warholm in the final of 400m hurdles. When Warholm won gold in the World Championships in 2019 and 2023, Roy Benjamin was able to win silver and bronze. In the Tokyo Olympics too, Benjamin finished second and could only win the silver medal.
Warholm was ahead in the semi-finals
In the heat round, Karsten Warholm and Rai Benjamin were in different groups. Both were on top but Warholm took less time. Something similar happened in the semi-final race. But in the final, Benjamin won the gold by completing the race in 46.46 seconds. Warholm completed the race in 47.06 seconds. He had created a world and Olympic record by winning the race in 45.94 seconds in the Tokyo Olympics. Alison dos Santos of Brazil won the bronze in both Tokyo and Paris.
Rai Benjamin’s third Olympic gold
Roy Benjamin’s father Winston Benjamin was part of the West Indies team between 1986 and 1995. Fast bowler Winston played 21 Tests and 85 ODIs. He has 161 wickets in his name. Roy Benjamin was born in New York. At the beginning of his career, he represented Antigua and Barbuda. Along with 400 meter hurdles in the Paris Olympics, Roy also won gold in the 4×400 meter relay. He was also a gold medalist in this event in the Tokyo Olympics.
