‘US should now directly intervene’, American lawmakers furious over attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh

The echo of attacks against minority Hindus in Bangladesh has reached America. 2 prominent Indian-American lawmakers have demanded direct intervention from the US to stop this. They said that instability accompanied by religious intolerance and violence is not in the interest of America and its allies. A letter has been written to Secretary of State Antony Blinken regarding this. US lawmaker Mr. Thanedar said that he is not alone against the atrocities being committed on Hindus in Bangladesh. Many people in the international community have also condemned the violent actions against minority groups in Bangladesh.

The Michigan MP wrote to Blinken, ‘Muhammad Yunus will take the country forward as the interim Prime Minister of Bangladesh. However, it is the responsibility of the US to assist this new government. It should be ensured that violence and civil unrest end there. ‘ He further said that I appeal to the President Joe Biden administration to provide grants to the persecuted Hindus and others of Bangladesh. Also, religious minorities should get temporary protected status as refugees.

Every effort is necessary to end violence

At the same time, MP Raja Krishnamurthy said that Bangladesh is preparing to swear in its interim government. I urge all government officials, the new administration, the police chief and the people of Bangladesh to make every effort to end the violence that has spread across the country. This violence includes brutal targeting of the country’s Hindu minorities, their homes, businesses and their temples. Krishnamurthy said that the violence must be stopped. Those responsible for this must be brought to justice so that Bangladesh can move forward as a nation.

Hindu temples, homes and businesses vandalized

Let us tell you that there have been incidents of vandalism and arson in many Hindu temples, houses and businesses in Bangladesh. At least two Hindu leaders associated with Hasina’s Awami League party have been killed in the violence since Sheikh Hasina resigned and reached India on Monday. MP Ro Khanna said in a post on X, ‘Bangladeshi students were only concerned about human rights against Prime Minister Hasina. It is good that she left. But now the violence targeting Hindus is wrong. Prime Minister Yunus should maintain the rule of law and protect temples or people of any political party or faith from violence.’
