IPL 2026 auction date fixed: Retention list will be submitted by November 15, then big competition will be saved

Mumbai

The date of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction is considered almost fixed. According to reports, there is every possibility of the auction taking place between 13th and 15th December. This information has been shared by the franchise officials after talks with BCCI. However, the Governing Council of IPL has not yet formally announced the schedule.

According to the report of ‘Cricbuzz’, where will the auction take place, will it again take place on foreign soil? No information has been received regarding this yet. Keep in mind that the last 2 auctions were held on foreign soil. In 2023, the auction was held in Dubai and in 2024, the auction was held in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).

Sources told Cricbuzz that there should be no surprise that mini auction can be held in India also. However, that decision is yet to be given concrete shape.

However, one thing can be considered almost certain that the last date of retention is 15th November_ till then all the IPL franchises will have to give to BCCI the names of the players whom they want to release before the auction. The possibility of major changes in other teams is less at present. Except Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR)… both these teams were at the bottom of the points table last season.

Which players will be released from CSK?
According to reports, the names of Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, Sam Curran, Devon Conway may be in the release list of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Five-time IPL champion CSK has already had a budget of Rs 9.75 crore after R Ashwin’s retirement from IPL.

Which players will be released from RR?
It has been claimed in this report that Sanju Samson’s name will be at the top of the release list of Rajasthan Royals, if the franchise is not successful in trading for the captain. There was also talk of releasing Wanindu Hasaranga and Mahish Tikshina from the Royals team, but this plan may change after Kumar Sangakkara returns as the head coach.

Starc, Natarajan, Akash Deep will go to the new team
T Natarajan, Mitchell Starc, Akash Deep, Mayank Yadav, David Miller and other players may be looking for new franchises, although there is no official confirmation yet. Same is the case with Venkatesh Iyer. He was the third most expensive player bought in the last auction, Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for Rs 23.75 crore.

The report also claims that according to the ongoing discussions among the franchises, Cameron Green could be the most talked about player in the auction. This Kangaroo all-rounder had missed the last auction due to injury. They can get a big price.
