The workers working in cleaning the city will now have to do full duty for eight hours. They will get salary only after doing eight hours of duty every day. The Municipal Corporation is also going to abolish the contract system of zone level contracts.
Now a contract agency will be appointed from the corporation head office, which will provide employees, equipment and resources for cleaning in the entire city. The city government of the Municipal Corporation held a preliminary discussion on this proposal in the recent MIC meeting. It was also decided in the meeting that the cleanliness system of the city will be implemented with strictness and transparency.
Municipal Corporation officials said that in the wards of the city, sanitation workers were often found on duty less than the prescribed number, which leads to negligence in cleaning work. Due to this, the level of cleanliness of the city was not as expected. In other municipal corporations like Bhilai, Bilaspur, Korba, Jagdalpur and Ambikapur, centralized tender has yielded better results.
Under this new system, a big agency will be selected through online tender process for cleaning the entire city. Ward wise monitoring will be done through the concerned ZHO. Instead of a separate contractor in every ward, there will now be a centralized contract, in which population and ward wise cleanliness plan will be prepared.

At present the Municipal Corporation pays about Rs 7 crore every month to different contract agencies for cleaning 70 wards. Despite this, cleanliness was not being achieved adequately in many wards. To solve this problem, centralized systems are now being implemented. With this new system, clean streets, systematic cleanliness and better public facilities will be available to the city residents. The corporation administration says that in the coming days the new system will be implemented after completing the centralized tender process.
