Talk with Trump to reduce tariffs in lieu of Brazilian President Lula

Brazilian President Luiz Eneasio Lula Da Silva on Monday requested US President Donald Trump to remove 40 percent of tariffs imposed by the US government on Brazilian imports during a phone conversation on Monday. President Trump said that I had a very good conversation with Brazilian President Lula.

He said that we discussed many issues, but most of the talks focused on economy and trade between the two countries. We will interact further and soon we will meet Brazil and America. I liked the conversation very well – our countries will do very well together.

Both leaders conversation for 30 minutes

At the same time, according to a statement issued from Lula’s office, the two leaders interacted for 30 minutes, exchange of phone numbers and Lula reiterated Trump to attend the upcoming climate summit to be held in Balem. Later, Trump posted Truth on social that he had a good conversation with Lula.

40 percent tariff on Brazilian products

Trump wrote, “We discussed many issues, but it was mainly focused on economy and trade between the two countries.” He further said that leaders of Brazil and America will also discuss further and meet in the near future. The Trump administration imposed 40 percent tariff on Brazilian products in July, which was in addition to the 10 percent tariff imposed earlier. Lula reminded Trump that Brazil is one of the three G20 countries with which America keeps the trade surplus.

Convicted for trying to try

The Trump administration justified the tariff, saying that the policies of Brazil and a criminal case against former President Zaar Bolsonaro causes an economic emergency. Earlier this month, Bolsonaro was convicted of trying to try for a coup after losing the election again in 2022 and was sentenced to 27 years and three months in jail by a panel of the Supreme Court. Lula also offered to visit Washington to meet Trump, so that the conversation started during the UN General Assembly earlier this month can be carried forward.
