Red sandalwood smuggling: ED attached Abdul Jafar’s assets worth 8.6 crores

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has tightened the smuggler Abdul Jaffer in the International Wood International Smuggling case. Accused Abdul Jafar has attached assets worth Rs 8.6 crore. The accused bought this property with illegal money received from smuggling. Investigation revealed that in 2016, the accused had hidden 576 red sandalwood sticks in a warehouse in Raipur, which had a total weight of 11 tonnes.

Preparations were being made to send these logs to Dubai from Raipur. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) received information that Jafar is smuggling red sandalwood in Dubai. On the basis of information, the DRI team stopped a container in Nagpur on 2 October 2016. In the container, 1,324 red sandalwood laddas (14 tons) were hidden under the sponge iron.

After the action of Nagpur, on 4 October 2016, raids were conducted in the warehouse of Raipur, in which the red sandalwood sticks were seized. After this, Abdul Jafar was arrested, who is currently lodged in Raipur Jail.
