Former Chinese Agriculture Minister Tang Rainjian has been sentenced to death for taking bribe. Tang is alleged to have misused his influence while holding a government post between 2007 and 2024. He helped others in works like providing projects, helping in business and making jobs changes and took a bribe of 268 million yuan (about 315 crore rupees) in return.
The court of Changchun, China, said that Tang’s corruption was very harmful for the country and the people. Therefore, he was punished severely. But because he confessed his crime, regretted and returned the illegal money to the government, he was given some softness.
How can you avoid punishment?
The court also has 2 years relief from Tang. This means that if he behaves well for two years, then his punishment can be converted into life imprisonment. The court has seized all their personal belongings and the bribe money has been deposited in the government treasury. Also, he has been excluded from politics for a lifetime.
Action on 10 lakh people
Since Xi Jinping came to power in 2012, a big campaign was launched against corruption in the country. The name of this campaign is from ant to tiger. That is, no one will be spared from small employees to big leaders and officers. Under the campaign, more than 10 lakh government officials have been caught in corruption cases so far.
These include small employees of the village to big ministers and many big military officers. Action has also been taken against more than 100 officers of the army. Its purpose is to make the system of the government and the Communist Party clean, winning the trust of the people and ending corruption. However, some people say that this campaign has also been used to remove political opponents.
