Following the Supreme Court order, retired IAS Dr. Alok Shukla and Anil Tuteja surrendered on Monday. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) then arrested both. The special court has ordered the accused to be given on remand of ED by 16 October after hearing.
Alok Shukla reached court to surrender twice
The arrest is associated with the state’s famous Naan scam 10 years ago. It is alleged that Alok Shukla and Anil Tuteja tried to influence the investigation by misusing their position and authority. The Supreme Court had canceled the bail from the High Court, after which Alok Shukla reached the court twice to surrender. The first ED was not allowed due to not presenting the diary in the court, but both were arrested after the diary was submitted.
Court complex converted into a cantonment
After the arrest, the ED team left the accused by flight to Delhi. He will be questioned newly questioned in the Delhi ED office. The Naan scam is now being investigated by the Delhi ED itself. In view of security, the court premises were converted into a cantonment and CRPF personnel were deployed. The couple bench of the Supreme Court has set a deadline for ED and EOW to complete the investigation. Three months for ED and two months for EOW.
This is the whole matter
On February 12, 2015, ACB and EOW team raided 28 locations after complaints of transport and storage of rice, salt and other foods in the Civil Supplies Corporation. In the investigation, Rs 2 crore cash was seized from Raipur headquarters of Naan. After this, an invoice of more than 5000 pages was presented in the court against 16 people. At that time Alok Shukla was Food Secretary and Anil Tuteja Nan’s MD. After getting permission from the Center, a separate supplementary invoice against both was also produced in the court.
