The High Court said that there are constant reports in the newspapers that children cross their lives and go to school. This situation is unbearable. The court directed the state government to file a new affidavit on the conversation with the Center and the action so far.
In Dantewada and adjoining districts of Bastar zone, children are forced to cross the broken culvert and swinging river and go to school. In view of this critical situation, the Chhattisgarh High Court, taking suo motu cognizance, sought answers from the state government.
Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice B.D. The Guru’s bench while hearing said that this is a sensitive matter related to the lives of children and such a situation cannot be tolerated for a long time. On this serious matter, the Chhattisgarh High Court has given strict instructions to the state government, taking self -cognizance.
The state government told the court that a proposal for construction of bridge has been sent to the Central Government and the revised DPR has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs on August 20. The court expressed concern that it is unacceptable to risk the lives of children. The next hearing will be held on 22 September.
The case came out after a media report, in which pictures and videos of school children went viral. The children were crossing the river full of water and reaching the school. The court automatically took into consideration as a case related to the life of children.
Government presented affidavit
During the hearing, the Advocate General on behalf of the state government informed that a proposal has been sent to the central government to construct a large bridge. After technical investigation, clarification was sought at 12 points. The proposal has been amended by sending a reply by the Kanker Collector. The revised DPR on 20 August 2025 has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. As soon as the approval is received, the construction work will be started after completing the tender process.
