Big relief to MP Swati Maliwal, court acquitted in this 9 -year -old case

Swati Maliwal

A Delhi court on Thursday acquitted AAP MP Swati Maliwal from the charge of revealing the identity of the 14 -year -old rape victim. Maliwal was booked under the Juvenile Justice Act and Section 228A, which prohibits the identity of victims of sexual offenses.

The case was heard by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal. A full written order is awaited regarding this matter. Maliwal was accused that a notice was sent to the Police Commissioner of the area to get information about the victim’s case, in which the name of the victim was revealed.

The case was registered in 2016

Delhi Police registered a case against Maliwal in 2016, when she was the chairman of the Delhi Women’s Commission. Police said that Maliwal revealed the name of the victim, which has been violated by the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. This provision protects the identity of the minor victim of sexual offense.

The minor girl died on 23 July 2016 in a hospital. It was told that his neighbor had put a corrosive substance in his neck. This chemical was damaged to the inner organs.

What was the allegation?

Police said that Maliwal had sent a notice to the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the area, in which he sought information about the investigation of the case. It was being told that the name of the victim was also included in this notice given to print and electronic media. For this reason, in the FIR lodged against Maliwal, it was alleged that the notice was deliberately broadcast on different WhatsApp groups and shown on TV channels.
