Impeachment motion approved against Justice Verma, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla formed a 3 -member committee

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday announced the formation of a three-member committee to investigate the allegations against the Cash-at-Hom dispute against the High Court Judge Yashwant Verma. In this committee, Justice Arvind Kumar of Supreme Court, CGI Maninder Mohan Srivastava of Madras High Court, Senior Advocate of Karnataka High Court P.V. Acharya will be involved.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said, this committee will present its report as soon as possible. This proposal will be pending till the report of the inquiry committee is received. The proposal was signed by 146 MPs to impeach against Justice Yashwant Verma. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has accepted the proposal for impeachment. After this, a three -member committee has been formed to investigate the allegations against Judge Yashwant Verma.

What is the whole matter?

On March 14, 2025, after the fire incident of Justice Verma’s house, cash worth crores was received. A sudden fire broke out in Justice Verma’s government bungalow at around 11.35 pm on Holi. Justice Verma and his wife were not present at home on the day of the incident, they were out of the house. After the fire, his family called the fire brigade to extinguish the fire. When the fire brigade arrived to extinguish the fire, there was a large amount of notes of notes. According to the information, an entire room was found full of notes. To investigate the case, the then Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna constituted an internal inquiry committee of three judges.

SC rejected judge’s petition

In this case, Judge Yashwant Verma filed a petition in the Supreme Court. However, on Thursday, August 7, the Supreme Court dismissed a writ petition filed by Judge Yashwant Verma in connection with the cash scandal in the house. The petition of Judge Verma challenged the internal investigation report in which he was convicted in the cash scandal in the house and a recommendation to conduct impeachment against him on behalf of former Chief Justice (CJI) Sanjeev Khanna for recovery of large quantities of cash from his government residence in Delhi.
